Violist and chamber musician

Biography

Originally from Spain, I spent the past nine years living in Norway, where I studied my  bachelor’s degree in viola and practical pedagogic studies viola at University of Stavanger with Ellen Nisbeth and Davis Sliecans. After my bachelor I worked for a year as a violin teacher in Eigersund kulturskole (Norway). I taught violin individually and in group lessons, and oversaw music theory and music history lessons.

At the moment, I am living in Maastricht, where I am pursuing a master's degree in viola performance at Maastricht Conservatory with Julia Dinerchtein.

Throughout my studies I have participated and performed in several chamber music festivals and courses like Voksenåsen summer academy in Oslo, Båstad chamber music festival in Sweden, New Millenium Chamber Music Academy in Budapest, Zemstov Masterclasses in the Netherlands, and a String Quartet course organised by the Marmen Quartet in Malmö. I’ve also had the opportunity to take masterclasses and private lessons with Isabel Villanueva, Travis Maril, Bryony Gibson-Cornish, Phil Ying, Mark Holloway, Asbjørn Nørgaard, Ida Bryhn, and Mikhail Zemstov.

Chamber music has always been present alongside my studies and I have been a member of different chamber music ensembles such as Aureus Trio, Peiskos String Quartet, Edda Strykekvartett, Malia String Duo, as well as Bergen Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Bergen Youth Chamber Orchestra.

I play on a viola by Rafael Melenchon modeled after the “Archinto” Stradivarius viola from 1969, made in 2012 in Madrid.

Malia Duo

String duo formed by Maja Apel, cello and me on the viola. Our ensemble is based in Stavanger, Norway, and among our repertoire you will find a variety of genres and composers. We have made our own arrangements for cello and viola of Bach Inventions, originally for piano, and Sibelius Duo in C major originally for violin and viola, and music from the movie My neighbour Totoro. We also perform Beethovens only piece originally for viola and cello called, Duet mit zwei obligaten Augengläser.

For the past couple of years we have been performing around Stavanger in concerts, conferences, weddings and other private events.

Aureus Trio

We are a newly assembled string trio formed by cellist Marco Gutiérrez, violinist Olivia Tries, and me on the viola. We are based in Maastricht, the Netherlands, and we are getting regular masterclasses and coachings with Prof. Piotr Jasiurkowski, Prof. Aljoscha Ristow and Prof. Mihai Cocea. At the moment one of our projects is preparing Mozarts Flute Quartet KV285 in D major with Spanish flutist Ana Casero. In our repertoire you will also find Shuberts String Trio in Bb major D471, and Beethovens String Trio Op. 9 No. 3 in C minor.

Peiskos string quartet

Founded in 2024 at Conservatorium Maastricht, we began our musical journey under the guidance of renowned teacher Kyoko Yonemoto. The group is formed by violinists Sara Manaresi and Uxue Medrano, cellist Fermín García and me on the viola. Combining their passion for classical music and diverse backgrounds, we aim to bring fresh interpretations to the string quartet repertoire and are currently working on by Haydn and Mendelssohn.
